What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Indian weddings? Is it your favorite dish? The joyous dance moves? Or maybe, the gorgeous colors and traditional outfits that the bride and groom wear? What about the wedding videos that get played at every relative’s house for years after the wedding? While there are so many things about Indian weddings that make them truly special, some things always remain constant.
The bride and groom’s arrival
The bride and groom arrive to the venue in a decorated car. The traditional haldi ceremony begins with mehndi applied to the bride’s hand and feet. Next, they proceed to garland each other with flowers and offer prayers at the altar. The groom is seen applying mehndi on the bride’s feet while she makes a prayer.
The haldi ceremony
The bride and groom are dressed in their traditional wedding attire as they enter the venue. One of the most important rituals on a telugu wedding day is the haldi ceremony. The bride takes a round of the sacred fire before applying turmeric paste to her face, chest, hands, arms, feet, stomach and back. A similar ritual follows for the groom. And then there’s dhoti tying ceremony.
The wedding dance
They danced to the rhythm of traditional folk songs while family members joined them on stage. The guests were treated to an assortment of delicious South Indian cuisine. As the evening progressed, it became more lively as confetti flew across the venue and people danced to pop music.
Bride’s arrival at her in-law’s house where a function is held in her honor. It then transitions to the bridegroom’s house, where his family members wait for his bride-to-be to arrive with their cars decked up with ribbons and balloons for the occasion of their daughter’s wedding day. All is quiet outside as everyone awaits the car that carries her love, waiting until it arrives before bursting into joyous applause as she walks down the aisle toward him – they’re finally married!
