As traditional wedding photographers at Focuz Studios, we were privileged to shoot the wedding of Amruthavarshini and Sriram at Vijay Raja Thirumana Mandapam, Kovilambakkam, Chennai, a venue that beautifully blends tradition with modern aesthetics. With around 83 mesmerising pictures, this blog captures the heartwarming moments, from emotional exchanges between the couple and their parents to intricate rituals that hold deep meaning.

The Venue – Vijay Raja Thirumana Mandapam, Kovilambakkam, Chennai

The choice of Vijay Raja Thirumana Mandapam as the wedding venue added a regal charm to the event. Located in Kovilambakkam, Chennai, this spacious hall accommodates grand weddings while preserving an intimate atmosphere. The warm lighting and traditional décor complemented the traditional couple’s attire, enhancing the timeless appeal of each shot. With large windows allowing natural light to pour in, the venue provided us the perfect backdrop for both portraits and ceremonial moments.

Amruthavarshini’s grace was undeniable. From her traditional saree to her intricate jewellery, every detail was beautifully highlighted in her bridal portraits. We used soft filters to bring out the elegance and warmth of her complexion, adding a dreamy effect to the portraits. Her calm poise, combined with the traditional Brahmin bridal attire, created a captivating look that was a joy to capture.

Sriram, in his traditional veshti, exuded both tradition and charm. His smile, full of pride and excitement, made the portraits come alive. The combination of traditional wear with his modern groom’s look gave us the perfect opportunity to capture the essence of Tamil Brahmin weddings – where ancient traditions meet modern grace. We focused on creating a mix of candid and posed portraits, reflecting his calm demeanor and excitement for the big day.

In Tamil Brahmin weddings, the groom’s preparation and involvement in various rituals hold deep cultural significance. For Sriram, the day began with him getting ready in his traditional veshti, a moment filled with anticipation and pride. The custom of applying Kajal on his cheeks, symbolizing protection from the evil eye, added a traditional touch to his preparation. Additionally, the sacred thread, or poonal, was an essential part of his attire, emphasizing his role in the rituals to come. We focused on capturing these important moments, showcasing the groom’s readiness and connection to the traditional customs of a Brahmin wedding.

Capturing the Beauty of Mangalsutra (Thali)

The tying of the Mangalsutra (Thali) is a deeply emotional moment in Tamil Brahmin weddings. We zoomed in to capture the intricate design of the Thali, which symbolised the sacred bond between the couple. The golden hues of the Thali against the bride’s saree made for a stunning visual representation of this cherished ritual.

 

Fun in Kasi Yatra

The Kasi Yatra ritual brought out a playful side of the wedding. Traditionally, the groom attempts to leave for Kasi, only to be brought back by the bride’s father. This moment is full of light-hearted fun, and Sriram’s playful expressions, along with the reactions of the family members, were captured beautifully. The pictures from this part of the ceremony showcase a mix of tradition and joy.

 

Moments of Malai Martrugal

During the Malai Martrugal (exchange of garlands), both Amruthavarshini and Sriram were brimming with happiness. We captured the candid moments of laughter, teasing, and joy that are central to this tradition. These shots show not only the couple’s bond but also their playful interaction, making it one of the most memorable parts of the wedding.

The Oonjal (swing) ceremony was particularly heartwarming. As the couple sat on the beautifully decorated swing, surrounded by their families, there were moments of laughter, love, and togetherness.
